TURRALL CYNGHRAIR TRAWS LEAGUE ROUND 3

TURRALL CYNGHRAIR TRAWS LEAGUE ROUND 3

Llyn Trawsfynydd hosted round 3 of the Cynghrair Traws Turrall Traws League 2023.

The 22 anglers were met with an overcast sky and light winds. Fish were rising throughout Home Bay, which is where many boats began their day. A few fish were caught early on.

After a while the majority of the boats headed out throughout the lake. At the conclusion of the day, there was a good mix of bags. A total of 121 fish were caught with a rod average of 5.5.

Congratulations to today’s winner Nathan Midgley with a magnificent bag of 18 fish for 34lbs 12ozs.

Top Tips from Nathan Midgley

Match report from Nathan following his success today, good angling.

We had a steady breeze around 5mph with overcast and sunny periods, luckily we managed to miss the rain forecast.

My boat partner today was Geraint Jones. I started on a fast glass, with a huwie on the point a cormorant on the middle and cat booby on the top dropper. We decided to start in Home Bay as did a few others but we soon had it to ourselves. Geraint caught 4 fish really quickly and I soon caught him up. Every fish was coming to the point fly, and I couldn’t get them to look at anything bright on top. Having changed many times, I decided to go 2 flys huwie and a hot head black lure 12ft apart. We left HomeBay around 12pm and went up towards the Iron Bridge. We worked our way down picking up the odd fish, but nearly every fish was literally on the bank finding nothing more than 50 yards out. The wind kept swinging and it was awkward, so we headed back to Home Bay to find 6 boats there! We did one drift amongst them but then decided to go around the corner and out of the way in front of the Power Station. This proved to be the right decision finding fish all the way down. They were tight in once again, and I landed 3 pike in one drift!

Another enjoyable day many thanks to all involved Simon, Stephen, all the fishery staff and of course Beth for our breakfast! Massive thank you Turrall for sponsoring.

Looking forward to the next one in July!

Next round Saturday 14th July - be sure to keep up to date.
